This page has a selection of cotton wicks made by either Wedo or ourselves it is unwaxed and is supplied wound onto a cardboard bobbin. The figure in brackets (**mm) is a guide to the diameter of the candle the wick is suitable for, more information on each wick is available by clicking on the more info link. We recommend that you buy a wick sample to test for suitability before buying larger amounts of any of the wicks.
Candle Wick
The wick guides (up to) are an indication of the wax pool you can expect the wick to achieve using the wax indicated. For example to make a 75mm (3") paraffin pillar candle you would choose the LX18 or the 3x18C wick.

Wedo's LX wick is a very thin flatwick that curls into the flame to produce a self trimming effect.
Effective in both paraffin and natural wax; when used in natural wax it is common that you have to use a lot larger size than you would in paraffin wax. Large amounts of scent in a candle can affect the performance of the Wedo LX wick.

Wedo's RRD wick is a round wick that is well suited for use in vegetable and gel wax. The wick is directional giving it a very good capillary flow; the wick is supplied with a knot at one end with the knot signifying the top or direction that the wick is braided.

The TL wick is flat braided with a non-cored construction which allows for optimum wick movement into the flame during combustion. The TL line is designed to be used in tea lights and votives due to the low heat precision burning it offers in paraffin, vegetable and gel waxes.

The NT wick is braided for use with natural waxes such as beeswax and stearin; it is also very successful with natural candle sands which often prove hard to wick.
A guide is available here for the candle diameters the NT wick is suitable for, it is available as a starting point to enable you to choose wicks closest to the diameter of candle you are going to make. Testing is required to find the most suitable size for your particular candle.

Traditionaly and most commonly the coreless flatwick is used in the making of dipped pillar candles. It is also a good choice for plain pillar candles that have no scent or dye added.

Cotton cored wick is the most popular wick we sell and will work in all paraffin waxes and applications. The cotton core gives extra heat from the flame as well as added rigidity.

The paper core wick has its place for candle making in that it is often the wick that works best when you have large amounts of scent in your candle or you are using old left-over candle wax. It is often said that paper core wick smokes very badly but modern paper cored wick that is trimmed to 5mm before each lighting of the candle will never let you down.
